Dindi — Walking With Devotion

The Spirit of Dindi

Every year, thousands of Varkaris walk from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur, chanting the holy names of Vitthala. This sacred walk is called the Wari, and each devotional group is known as a dindi. People walk like one spiritual family — singing, praying, serving, and supporting one another. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

ISKCON Hadapsar joyfully participates in this glorious tradition every year, welcoming Varkaris with kirtan, prasadam, and seva. It is our privilege to serve the devotees who have preserved this timeless paramparā.

The Varkari Wari Tradition

The Varkari Wari is one of Maharashtra’s most ancient devotional movements. It was shaped by Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and later enriched by Sant Namdev, Sant Tukaram, Sant Eknath, Janabai, Chokhamela, and many others. Their abhangas carry the essence of devotion and the heart of the Wari. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

“पंढरी ची वारी करील जो कोणी । त्याच्या मागेपुढे चक्रपाणी ॥” — Sant Namdev

Sant Tukaram Maharaj expresses complete surrender, pure bhakti, and identity as a Varkari:

“हाचि माझा नेम धर्म । मुखी विठोबाचें नाम ॥” “तकु ा म्हणे देवा, हेचि माझी भोळी सेवा ॥”

The Wari covers nearly 250 km over 18–21 days and culminates in Pandharpur on the sacred Ashadhi Ekadashi. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}
